Writing

Although I have shifted from news writing to strategic communications, writing is still a great passion of mine and a skill I spent a long time developing. Below are some of my favorite news articles and features I wrote for the University Daily Kansan student newspaper.

I co-wrote this Q&A with fellow University Daily Kansan staff writer Aminah Syed. During the interview, Syed and I learned about Joseph R. Kennedy and his role in the Manhattan project, as well as interesting, behind-the-scenes information about “Oppenheimer.” Overall, interviewing Bronson and co-writing this article allowed me to become a more well-rounded writer and gain a new, interesting experience.

I wrote this article for the University Daily Kansan in Nov., 2023. Through my reporting, I was able to break the news that the University of Kansas NAGPRA committee’s count of Native remains held on campus had risen dramatically. Obtaining this information was not easy and required an extensive amount of research and interviews. However, it taught me so much about reporting and what it takes to report on important issues.

The Lippincott Hall annex and Spooner Hall were confirmed to be housing Indigenous remains in 2022. KU Repatriation and NAGPRA have not disclosed any new information on location of ancestors in 2023.

I wrote this article for my multimedia reporting class; it was also published in the University Daily Kansan arts and culture section. I had never profiled a business before writing this article, but it was a terrific opportunity to grow as a writer. Because the cat cafe isn’t a new business, I wanted to make sure that I wrote this article with the angle of why students should visit the cafe now, so I wrote it in the context of how the cafe can help students during finals week. After profiling Espurresso Cat Cafe, I feel more confident in my ability to make my articles timely and interesting for my audience.
